Dear Friends,

Thank you for the trust and confidence you have shown in my ability to represent the interests of our community these past four years as your State Representative for District 123 (Hilton Head Island).

By re-electing me two years ago our district was able to achieve needed seniority to make me increasingly effective as your state legislator. By re-electing me again, I can do even more.

This term I have been appointed to two blue-ribbon committees that will directly assist our area with regard to school funding allocations and natural disaster preparedness. My efforts this spring on the school funding committee were important in restoring for Beaufort County $2.4 million in funding to our county schools that had been eliminated earlier by legislative mandates based on an ill-conceived formula related to county wealth.

Perhaps my most significant achievement, however, for a majority of Hilton Head Islanders was as a member of the legislative Ad Hoc Property Tax Reform Committee where I helped spearhead legislation that helped lead to the decrease in property taxes on primary residences -- thus saving thousand of Hilton Head Island residents thousands of dollars.

Additionally my seniority on the Medical, Military and Public & Municipal Affairs Committee has helped me achieve some significant legislative initiatives important to the small businesses on the island and the welfare of seniors and people in need of continuing care.

During my time as your representative I have dedicated myself to working hard and being accessible to you, the voters. I pledge to continue my tireless efforts to ensure that other legislators know the unique challenges we face as a coastal resort and recreational community.
